Overview

Lionel Messi holds more individual honours than any footballer who has played the game: eight Ballons d'Or, four Champions League titles, ten La Liga championships and 474 league goals for Barcelona, a record that is unlikely to be approached. He spent seventeen seasons in the Barcelona first team after arriving from Rosario at thirteen.

The one thing missing was a World Cup, and he won it in 2022 at his fifth attempt, scoring in every knockout round and twice in a final that Argentina drew 3–3 with France before winning on penalties. He had already ended Argentina's 28-year wait for a senior trophy at the 2021 Copa América. He joined Inter Miami in 2023 and led them to the Supporters' Shield in 2024 and MLS Cup in 2025.
