Overview
The 2026 FIFA World Cup was the twenty-third edition of the tournament and the first contested by 48 teams, expanded from 32. It was played across sixteen venues in Canada, Mexico and the United States between 11 June and 19 July 2026 — the first World Cup hosted by three nations, and the largest in the competition’s history at 104 matches.
Spain won it, beating Argentina 1–0 after extra time at MetLife Stadium in front of 80,663 spectators. Ferran Torres, a 62nd-minute substitute, scored in the 106th minute. It was Spain’s second World Cup after 2010, and it made them the first nation to hold the men’s and women’s World Cups at the same time.
Kylian Mbappé took the Golden Boot with ten goals and passed Miroslav Klose as the tournament’s all-time leading scorer, reaching 22 across four editions.
