Overview
Gabriel Batistuta was Argentina's record goalscorer for two decades until Lionel Messi passed him, and remains one of the most powerful strikers the game has produced. He hit the ball with a violence few defenders or goalkeepers could deal with.
He spent nine seasons at Fiorentina and stayed with the club after relegation in 1993, a decision that made him permanently beloved in Florence — there is a statue of him outside the stadium. He finally won the Scudetto with Roma in 2001. He is the only player to score hat-tricks at two different World Cups.
