Career

Championship years: 1996.

Hill reached Formula One at thirty-two after years as a motorcycle racer and a test driver, and inherited the lead Williams seat in the worst circumstances imaginable when Ayrton Senna was killed at Imola in his third race as team-mate.

He held the team together through the rest of 1994, losing the championship to Michael Schumacher at Adelaide in a collision, and won the title in 1996 — making him and Graham Hill the only father and son to have both been world champion.

Williams dropped him for the following season despite the championship. He won once more, for Jordan at Spa in 1998, giving that team its first victory.
