Overview
Carlos Valderrama captained the Colombia side that reached three consecutive World Cups and beat Argentina 5–0 in Buenos Aires in 1993, one of the most famous results in South American football. His blond afro made him among the most recognisable players of the era.
He played almost entirely as a static creator, with an extraordinary range of passing and very little running, and set the MLS single-season assist record of 26 in 2000 — still unbeaten. He is Colombia's most-capped player.
