Overview
Younis Mahmoud captained Iraq to the 2007 Asian Cup and scored the only goal of the final against Saudi Arabia — a result achieved while the country was in the middle of civil war, and celebrated across sectarian lines in a way nothing else at the time was.
He is Iraq's all-time leading scorer and most-capped player, and was named the tournament's most valuable player in 2007.
